4 Secrets You Should Know. Number 3 and 4 really gets under my skin.
(These are just some of the results we have found while we searched the internet.)
- Homeadvisor will and can use your company name for marketing purposes. They can post listings for your company in other online markets. Problem is they can post there phone number instead of yours and also post links back to their site instead of yours. This gives them more and more back link strength. This means they can post as you, but send customers to there site which they sell the leads to your competitors.
- Angieslist charges cancellation fees if you decide you do not want to continue with there service and the contract is not completed. Leads from Angieslist can cost from $7 to $100 each, plus a monthly charge of $49.99.
- Yelp holds contractor reviews hostage. Do not take a Yelp review to heart!
Yelp has been known to hold the contractor reviews for ransom, they will take a company that has several reviews both good and bad and will hold the good reviews in their back pocket saying the contractor has "reviews that are not currently recommended". (Well not until they buy a monthly membership anyway.)
Example of a Yelp ransom: (AA Write-Way Roofing.)
Taken off yelp, This is a page for a roofer. The roofing company had a score of 2.25 with yelp, with 33 (only 9 posted) reviews, Both good and bad. But mostly bad ones listed. a true score would have been around 4 or 4.25 but as you can see yelp held out 22 of the reviews, not sure why they said they were currently not recommended. The home owners can open these reviews and read them, as I did with this roofer, they were all worth the read. If I remember right there were 15 that were great and 4 that were middle of the road and 3 that were 2 or 2.5 scores. yelp held these but posted 2 bad reviews that were from a tenant of a apartment building complaining about the crew working on the roof and leaving a mess (they were not done and it was in January). Yelp said they removed but the guy just re posted them and now not 1 bad review but 3 by the same guy...When I talked with the roofing company they said Yelp told them to join the site and they could fix the problem. They were looking at a couple hundred dollars per month worth of Yelp service to start. (UPDATE: 12/2019 At this time the problem has not been fixed and the roofing company has been paying them for a couple years now.)
- Homeadvisor has bought Angieslist...
Homeadvisor owns Angie'slist?
I can only imagine they are going to try to control the prices in the construction and contractor market by using the two systems together to raise the overall price.
